L*Space by Monica Wise at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2013
The L*Space presentation during MBFWS was a combination of three lines: Maio Swim and L*Space by Monica Wise and The Collection L*Space. The opening of the show was a monochromatic vision of turquoise, navy, cornflower blue and teal. Abstract pointillist patterns and snakeskin prints covered low-rise hipster bottoms and bikini tops with multi-string tie details. Straps were also wrapped around models, accented with fringe, metal embellishments and ruffle borders. Patterns continued in the form of faded chevrons, ombré prints and tribal designs. Neon hues were featured on ensembles through colorblocking, mixing brown with bright yellow or orange contrasts. Bandeau tops had tie-fronts, rouching or twisted centers; giving an interesting quality to seemingly simple bikini sets. In terms of cover-ups, draping scarves, cascading ruffles and eye-let cutouts adorned tunics and maxi dresses. As the runway show carried on, models switched over to ready-to-wear pieces. Fold-over tops, high slit skirts and wide-leg pantsuits were popular; each with lace front paneling, fringe and asymmetrical hemlines. Trendy crochet crop tops, ponchos and sweet short sets offered a bohemian vibe. At the closing of the L*Space presentation, colors shifted to deep violets and brilliant mixes of mint and chocolate shades. Contrasting piping gave an interesting detail to bustier tops, high-waisted briefs and one-piece suits. Creative illusion line prints were crowd-pleasing, introducing a play on linear, geometric motifs. For all things L*Space, visit the official website.
